Carmel studied Law in University College Dublin and trained as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in Dublin. She moved to London where she initially worked for Tate & Lyle PLC as Group Tax Accountant. In 1991 she moved to Barclays Capital and in 1998 she became Deputy Tax Director of Barclays. During her time there she led a major change project to implement a post-tax reporting environment across the organisation.
In 2003 she joined Deloitte as a director in the Tax Management Consulting Team where she worked with a wide range of clients and presented and published extensively on the subject of Tax Organizational Effectiveness. She joined Pfizer in 2006 and she leads the London based European Tax Center; which is a highly centralised model for the management of corporate taxes across Europe. She is a qualified NLP Master Practitioner which she uses extensively in her day to day work for individual coaching, team building and strategy development
